Our Approach

At Neon Numbers our vision is to remain your high street accountant, with a friendly face to greet you at the door.

We are based in Portsmouth and offer accountancy services to clients across the South Coast.

History

Neon Numbers was formed in the early 2000s with Rob’s vision of offering accountancy services to his friends in an informal way from a friendly, welcoming accountant.  This ethos proved very popular and the client base quickly grew.

Before long, a dining room was sacrificed and a dedicated office was built in Rob’s family home.  Neon Numbers’ first employee joined Rob in his home office in 2016 due to the ever-growing client list. In 2017, the home office was upgraded to a small office on Tangier Road, Portsmouth.  This led to more staff joining the team and more clients migrating to Neon Numbers for their accountancy.  By the end of 2017 Neon Numbers had grown to a team of five and the home office had to be reopened for additional space. The team out-grew these locations by early 2019 (the office had become quite snug by then!) and moved to their current location on Copnor Road during the summer of 2019.

Neon Numbers is now a team of nine: five accountants; two bookkeepers; and two payroll specialists.  Various colleagues have been supported through higher education, enabling a wide variety of skill sets and knowledge bases.  Six students have also been guided through volunteer work experience, one of which is now a permanent team member who will commence studying toward her formal accountancy qualifications in September 2021.

Values, Vision and Strategy

Neon Numbers values its reputation as a welcoming accountancy firm, at which no question is a stupid question.  We enjoy having a laugh with our clients when they come to visit, or when they call – it brightens up the day!  (We also value food so if you run a hospitality business, you’re welcome to bring us delicious treats when you visit  but beware, you may be “required” to visit the office more!)

We aim to make your visit to your accountant comfortable and un-pressured, and for you to leave feeling like you’ve got the information you need without being overwhelmed (or, conversely, patronised!) with information you don’t.

Support

We do not charge for any support, whether that be face to face/video meetings, or telephone/email support.  We recognise that these are all basic necessities that are crucial for most businesses in varying degrees, whether they're completing their own bookkeeping or not, and are included in our standard charges.

Qualifications

In the office we have 1 AAT part qualified, 5 AAT qualified and 1 trainee member of staff.  We also have 1 staff member that is set to obtain chartered status by the start of 2022.
